Red Archie MacGillivray, so called for his red hair, is on horseback. He became Chief of Police in 1938, and served for 15 years.
In an interview for a newspaper, he was asked “about his unusual and most difficult days. In the first instance he classified a trip to New Glasgow to help safeguard the visit of the King and Queen in the late thirties as a real pleasure. As for those most trying days, the Highland Games are without doubt the worst that could ever be encountered.”
