Opening day of the Sobeys store on Main Street, Antigonish, January, 1954 — the door prize was a washing machine called a Spiralator, brand name EASY.
Found this youtube ad for a Spiralator on The Arthur Godfrey show but not the same machine as in the photo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1_cygQzApU Also finding out that this washing machine is now a collectible on ebay and kijiji. Even found a photo of an abandoned Spiralator on flickr
We looked through issues of the Casket in early 1954 and were not able to find a notice of the store opening or who won the door prize.
